Counting days to Regional Learning Exchange Event: bringing in technology and innovative approaches to promote school safety in ASEAN

ASEAN Safe Schools Initiative (ASSI) is heading towards the end of the ASEAN Programme Strategy 2017-2020, its timely for ASSI bring in and promote all possible school safety innovations and technology utilisation into the regional fore and recognise all the existing innovative approaches on technology and school safety in the region and discuss with the representatives of the ASEAN Ministries of Education and National Disaster Management Offices (NDMOs) to utilise them for the advancement of school safety in the region. Practitioners, civil society organisations, networks and coalition on school safety will be invited to share their experience in creating and utilising innovations in school safety.

Due to this, ASSI will conduct the learning exchange workshop on 29-30 October 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. This workshop will be a platform for the ASEAN Member States to share progress and achievements of school safety, promote innovations resulted from the different initiatives over the last years and create platform for networking, sharing and learning among relevant stakeholders in school safety or Disaster Risk Reduction in Education sector.

The workshop will be comprised of panel discussions , knowledge management corners that promotes experiential learning of each single tool such as
mini exhibition (photo booth, computer screen) and presentation and group discussions, etc. The participants of this workshop are coming from Top/senior officials from the MInistry of Education and National Disaster Management Offices (NDMO) in and outside of ASEAN, Senior government officials from other relevant line agencies involved in school safety work, ASEAN Secretariat, Dialogue partners and donor ECHO, ASSI Consortium Partners (Plan International, World Vision, Save the Children, Mercy Malaysia); and members of the Asia Pacific Coalition on School Safety (APCSS), and other regional partners and stakeholders (i.e. private sectors, academe, youth groups, research institute etc.).

The expected output for this workshop are Promoted and shared innovative approaches, innovations across the ASEAN region; All innovative tools, technology utilisations are stock taken and documented; Community of practices, learning and sharing across the region strengthened;
and Wider networking of relevant actors in school safety in ASEAN and beyond.
